from premiere recording of Ram Tori Maya
Saili Oak and Palini Ramnarayan, vocals;
Nick Kennerly, Shelby Wong, violins; David Kang, viola; Sophie Mathieu, cello

Program Notes

I love writing music for young people. This vibrant Hindustani bhajan is a beautiful portrait of Krishna dancing. My arrangement is designed with young musicians from both cultures in mind, with the aim to draw them towards one another, one step at a time.

Special Performance Requirements

This is a string orchestra arrangement of the original version, for two Hindustani singers and string quartet. In this version, all the vocal parts are doubled, and therefore it does not require the Hindustani singers to be performed — however, they are a wonderful addition if they’re available. If there is only one singer available, they may sing the “original bhajan” line.
